Wieder mal über John Updike

Gestern Abend habe ich Barbara Frischmuth gleich auch wieder ausgelesen. Die Essays waren flüssig zu lesen und auch verständlich. Insgesamt hat mir das Buch sehr gut gefallen, wobei fast in jedem der Aufsätze das Thema "Kopftuch bei Musliminnen" angesprochen wurde. Das einzige was mir gefehlt hat, war, das Toleranz in beiden Richtungen funktionieren muß. Aber sonst war das Büchlein ganz nett.

Heute Abend beginne ich wieder ein Buch, das sich mit meinem Lieblingsschriftsteller John Updike beschäftigt. Von diesen Cambridge Companions gäbe es noch einige interessante - aber ich lese zuerst das eine Buch, bevor ich weitere Bände (z.B. über Shakespeare, Nabokov, Twain, oder über Gothic Fiction, Crime Fiction) auf meine Wunschliste setze.

Essays über den Orient

Heute Vormittag habe ich das Buch über Malta im Krieg beendet. Es war toll geschrieben und hat anschaulich gezeigt, wie diese schöne Insel und ihre Bewohner im Krieg gelitten haben. Malta wurde zuerst von den Italienern und später von den Deutschen bombardiert. Nicht nur die Hafenanlagen und Flugplätze, sondern auch Schulen, Krankenhäuser und das schöne Opernhaus. James Holland hat sehr viel für dieses Buch recherchiert und zeichnet die Kriegsjahre einiger der Bewohner von Malta und der englischen Militärs nach. Es hat mir sehr, sehr gut gefallen und es wundert mich keineswegs, das die Deutschen auf Malta nicht gerne gesehen sind. "Fortress Malta" ist eines der Bücher, das mich sicher noch eine ganze Weile nicht loslässt.

Heute Abend beginne ich dann mit dem Buch von Barbara Frischmuth, wie ja vorausgesagt.

Thalia Raten

Gestern und heute kam je ein Päckchen von Thalia, mit je einem Buch. Auch Thalia versendet offensichtlich immer alles in Raten. Immerhin war der Postbote aber so nett, und hat mir alle Päckchen jeweils in das Postkasterl gelegt.

Das erste ist ein Buch über Fotografie und die Kamera, die ich mir letztes Jahr gekauft habe. In dem Buch ist  auch eine Referenzkarte zur Kamera und eine DVD mit dem Buch. Das andere sind Essays einer österreichischen Schriftstellerin, die perfekt zu der Tragödie von Norwegen passen und die ich deshalb gleich als Nächstes lesen werde.

Zeitreise nach Malta

Gestern Abend habe ich das Vamirbuch beendet. Es hat mir sehr gut gefallen und war sehr interessant, wenn auch vielleicht zu sehr vom christlichen Standpunkt aus betrachtet. Es war aber wirklich interessant zu lesen, wie sich die Figur des Vampirs im Laufe der Zeit in der Literatur, im Kino und TV verändert hat.

Heute Abend werde ich mich dann nach Malta im Zweiten Weltkrieg begeben. Das Buch habe ich mir ja in Malta gekauft und habe es bereits angelesen, während die Wanne vollgelaufen ist.

Nach einigen Problemen mit der Post. bzw. dem Abholpostamt konnte ich heute wieder ein Päckchen von Amazon abholen. Ein weiteres Buch eines maltesischen Schriftstellers und ein Buch über Wien. Eines meiner nächsten Lese-Projekte könnte werden, das ich jeden Monat ein Buch über Wien/Österreich oder einen österreichischen Autoren lesen. Mal sehen, wonach mit 2012 ist.

Vampire im Juli

Heute habe ich in der Straßenbahn das Camilleri Buch ausgelesen und ich habe noch selten so einen Schwachsinn gelesen. Da hat kein Schriftsteller über sein Leben gesprochen, sondern ein alter Mann drauflos schwadroniert. Eigentlich hätte das Buch ja interessant sein müssen, denn Camilleri ist fast 90 Jahre alt und kannte eine Menge italienischer Persönlichkeiten. Aber der Sprachstil war besserwisserisch, belehrend und irgendwie seltsam. Wer kann sich nach 80 Jahren schon an seitenweise Dialoge erinnern und diese wiedergeben? Es sollte wohl bemüht interessant gemacht werden, aber es war nur Palaver, daher habe ich es mehr oder weniger nur überflogen.

Daher werde ich später in der Straßenbahn mein Juli-Vampir-Buch beginnen, das ja hoffentlich besser sein wird.

Leider bin ich heute schon wieder mit dem Rotkäppchen-Buch fertig geworden und es hat mir gut gefallen. Es war sogar besser als ich dachte und trotz des düsteren Themas leicht geschrieben. Dumm nur, das man das letzte Kapitel von der Webseite ausdrucken mußte - denn jetzt fehlt es natürlich im Buch. Aber immerhin weiß ich jetzt, wer der "böse Wolf" war.

Rotkäppchen

Heute nach dem Frühstück habe ich den Shakespeare ausgelesen, wie immer hat er mich begeistert. Leider bin ich bald alle Komödien durch, aber ein paar gibt es ja noch.

Nachdem ich nun den Film "Red Riding Hood" gesehen habe, werde ich heute Abend dann mit dem Buch beginnen. Es hat zwar etwas über 300 Seiten, ist aber keine anspruchsvolle Literatur, also werde ich es auch bald wieder ausgelesen haben.

Heute habe ich den Shakespeare-Reiseführer ausgelesen, der ganz nett war. Fakten von der damaligen Zeit, aber wie ein Reiseführer von heute. Taschendiebe gab es wohl immer schon, und auch sonst wurden Touristen mehr oder weniger über's Ohr gehauen.

Morgen beginne ich dann mit einem Orginial-Shakespeare. Ich habe mir den Neuen genommen, da ich "Much Ado About Nothing" im Moment nicht finde...

Zeitreise nach London

Heute habe ich den zweiten Teil der Southern Vampire Mysteries ausgelesen und es hat mir wieder sehr gut gefallen. Es war amüsant, es gab Kampf- und Liebesszenen, richtige Sommerlektüre.

Später werde ich dann in der Straßenbahn eine Zeitreise nach London unternehmen - und dann vielleicht einen Shakespeare anschliessend.

Sookie Stackhouse im Juli

Gerade eben gab es einen Absturz vom Internet und so hatte ich Zeit, mir ein neues Buch auszusuchen. Ich habe mich letztendlich entschlossen, mit Sookie Stackhouse weiterzumachen und heute Abend den zweiten Band zu beginnen.

Plot summary: This book opens with Sookie Stackhouse finding the dead body of Lafayette in the backseat of Andy Bellefleur's car, which had been left at Merlotte's the night before. Sookie learns that her friend had recently attended a local sex party. She thinks the members of that group might know something about her friend's murder so she starts "listening" to people's thoughts by using her special mind reading talent while working at the local bar.

In the meantime, Bill Compton, Sookie's vampire boyfriend, informs her that they have been summoned by Eric Northman. As a way to get Eric's attention, a maenad known as Callisto attacks Sookie on their way to Fangtasia, Eric's vampire bar. Sookie's wounds are poisoned, and she is healed by a combination of Dr. Ludwig's special treatment, and blood drainings by Eric, Pam, Chow, and Bill. Sookie is later given a fresh transfusion of human blood.[2] Eric informs Bill and Sookie that they need to go to Dallas to help the local vampire leader, Stan Davis, to find his missing "brother," Farrell, who has not returned to Davis' nest for five days.

The Dallas vampires, Sookie, and Bill learn that The Fellowship of the Sun (FotS) as well as a "renouncer" vampire named Godfrey might be behind the disappearance. Sookie decides to go to the FotS church with Hugo, Stan's human dish washer (although he is a lawyer in his regular human life) and the lover of Stan's "sister," Isabel, in an undercover mission. Sookie discovers that Hugo is a traitor, but her cover is quickly exposed when they meet Steve and Sarah Newlin, and she is badly hurt while trying to escape from the church. She does escape with the help of Luna, a shapeshifter, and Godfrey (who turns out to be a remorseful child molester and killer). After a run-in with more Supes, including an undercover doctor at a local hospital and some werewolves, Sookie ends up back at the FotS to be with Godfrey as he "meets the sun." That night at the welcome home party for Farrell, Stan's house is attacked by the FotS and many humans die. Sookie, unable to locate Bill, helps Eric remove a bullet that he took protecting her from the gunfire; he insists the only safe way to remove it is to suck the bullet out. In doing so, she ingests a few drops of his blood inadvertently. Bill returns soon after; he had chased down members of the FotS. He reveals to Sookie that Eric's insistence on sucking out the bullets was just a ruse to get her to ingest some of his blood—now he will have a connection with her. Sookie is furious at Eric. She is also angry at Bill because he killed someone and did not check on her before beginning his pursuit of the FotS. Sookie leaves the house and immediately flies back to Bon Temps.

Back in Bon Temps, Sookie avoids Bill for several weeks during which Bill "dates" Portia Bellefleur, who is trying to find out more about the sex club in an effort to clear her brother Andy of any connection to the murder. After seeing Sookie at a football game with Tara, Benedict "Eggs" Talley (Tara's fiancé), and JB du Rone (another male friend), Bill follows Sookie home and they passionately (and violently) reconcile.

The next day, Sookie is invited to a secret sex party organized by Mike Spencer. Afraid to go alone, Sookie asks Eric to accompany her as Bill is out of town. At the sex party, Sookie is surprised to see her friend Tara and Eggs and learns that Mike and Tom Hardaway murdered Lafayette. The party is interrupted when Bill, Andy Bellefleur, Sam (in collie form), and the maenad Callisto gather in front of the house. The maenad enjoys the drunkenness and lust of the party participants and eventually kills Mike, Tom and his wife, and another local named Jan. Eggs & Andy, under the maenad's spell, recall nothing of the incident - Tara is the only non-supernatural present with any recollection of the events (she was hidden and thus did not fall under the maenad's spell). Bill and Eric burn the house, and Eric glamours Tara so that she will not be able to remember what happened at the sex party.

Geburtstagsgeschenk

Ich habe heute Geburtstag und mein Göttergatte hat mir gleich um 06.00 Uhr morgens mein Geschenk übergeben. Natürlich habe ich mich sehr darüber gefreut, obwohl ich es mir nicht gleich angesehen habe. Aber bevor ich auf die Bank und zum Friseur gegangen bin, habe ich es mir doch noch schnell angesehen. Mein Mann hatte Angst, das ich eines der Bücher schon besitze - er hat aber gut ausgewählt und total meinen Geschmack getroffen.

Wieder was Neues zu Lesen

Da ich mir für heute Abend wieder etwas Neues zum Lesen aussuchen musste, habe ich mich wieder für ein Buch über das Schreiben - und zwar erotischer Literatur - entschieden. Das Buch klingt interessant und ich freue mich schon sehr darauf.
