First Lady of Song: Ella

Ich kann einfach nicht widerstehen und beende diesen April wie ich ihn begonnen habe: Mit der Biographie eines Jazz-Musikers. Ich habe das Buch erst am Dienstag bekommen, und ich muss es einfach gleich lesen, auch wenn ich es in den nächsten Tagen immer durch Wien schleppen muss. Wenn jetzt noch eine Biographie meiner zweitliebsen Jazz-Sängerin erscheinen würde, wäre ich mehr als glücklich. Aber erst gibt es Ella - und dazu passend eines ihrer Songbooks zum Lesen und Hören.

Gestern konnte ich mir von der Post ein Buch abholen, das ich so lange vorbestellt hatte, das ich schon längst auf die Bestellung vergessen habe. Aber es ist gerade rechtzeitig zum Geburtstag meiner Lieblingssängern gekommen, der großen Ella Fitzgerald. Ich habe vor gut 25 Jahren schon mal eine Biographie über Ella gelesen, war aber damals nicht so sehr begeistert. Ich hoffen jedenfalls, das die neue wesentlich besser ist. Schade, das ich heuer nicht auf Urlaub fahre, denn das wäre das perfekte Buch dafür.

Das Geheimnis im blauen Zug war nur ein kurzes Vergnügen, gestern habe ich den Roman schon wieder ausgelesen. Und so schlecht wie der Krimi beurteilt wurde, fand ich ihn nicht. Er war ein typischer Christie um Hercule Poirot und ich habe mich dabei sehr gut unterhalten. Mir hat das Buch gefallen und es war definitiv nicht mein letzter Roman um den belgischen Meisterdetektiv mit den kleinen grauen Zellen.

 

Heute beginne ich dann mit einem der neuen Liebesromane, die in einer Buchhandlung spielen.

Ich habe wieder Post von Amazon bekommen, wie immer in Raten. Dieses Mal waren dabei: Zwei Liebesromane in denen Buchhandlungen eine große Rolle spielen (eines davon wird gleich mein nächstes Buch), ein Buch über die Welten, die in Büchern geschaffen werden und ein weiteres Jazz-Buch.

Die nächste Zugreise

Gestern Abend habe ich das Bangkok-Buch ausgelesen. Es hat mir gut gefallen, und ich habe auf Google Maps mir immer angeschaut, wo sich der Autor gerade aufgehalten hat, welche Bars er besucht hat, usw. Auch einen Ausflug in das schöne Hua Hin hat er gemacht, hatte aber leider extrem schlechtes Wetter. Gestört hat mich allerdings, das auch sich auch junge Mädchen für Sex gekauft hat - oder sich von älteren japanischen Touristinnen hat kaufen lassen. Und die Geschichten mit dem Kokain sind auch so gar nicht meines. Aber es war ein sehr unterhaltsames Buch.

 

Heute in der U-Bahn habe ich dann mit einer weiteren Zugsreise begonnen, es geht mit Hercule Poirot im blauen Zug von Paris nach Nizza.

Leseurlaub in Bangkok

Gestern Nachmittag habe ich den dritten Teil der Trilogie über den Feuervogel ausgelesen und ich war froh, das es zu Ende war. Leider habe ich noch so ein Buch vor mir: den dritten Teil der Blade-Trilogie, die leider auch kein Happy End der Protagonisten hat. Aber ich muss es ja nicht so bald lesen.

 

Heute Morgen habe ich dann mit Essays aus Bangkok begonnen, und bisher gefällt mir das Buch ganz gut, habe allerdings erst 20 Seiten gelesen. Es sind aber kurze Essays und recht witzig geschrieben und ich komme wenigstens literarisch wieder in das wunderschöne Bangkok.

Neuigkeiten

Schon am Donnerstag habe ich das Buch mit den Essays über Bibliotheken ausgelesen, es hat mir sehr gut gefallen und ich werde mir von Alberto Manguel sicher noch ein Buch kaufen.

 

Gleich am Abend habe ich dann mit einem neuen Buch begonnen, dem letzten Teil der Feuervogel-Trilogie. Bis jetzt habe ich ca. 160 Seiten gelesen, die mir wie immer sehr gut gefallen haben und ich mag diese Fantasy-Story. Allerdings habe ich schon auf das Ende geschielt und es gibt kein Happy End. Caius opfert sich am Ende und so verliert Echo ihren Liebsten. Wenn es schon im echten Leben nicht immer ein Happy End gibt, so wünsche ich es mir wenigstens für meine Roman-Pärchen. Ich werde daher heute und morgen nur noch ein wenig querlesen - denn fast 500 Seiten und dann kein Happy End: das ist nichts für mich.

Außerdem war ich heute auf der Mariahilfer Straße und bin vom Westbahnhof runter bis zur U2 spaziert. In der U2-Passage gibt es eines dieser Geschäfte, die verbilligte Bücher haben und da wurde ich mit 3 Büchern fündig. Wie gut, das ich dort nicht oft hinkomme...

 

Gekauft habe ich mir eine Anthologie mit erotischen Fantasien, einen erotischen Roman und ein Buch mit der Geschichte der Gerichtsmedizin - was irgendwie auch alles zusammenpasst.

Über Bibliotheken

"Mission Michelangelo" habe ich am Wochenende direkt ausgelesen. Vom Thema her war es wahnsinnig interessant, aber einfach zu schnell abgehandelt. Vor allem die Rettung der von den Nazis geraubten Kunstwerke hätte ich gerne ausführlicher beschrieben gehabt. Das Buch war eher eine Einführung in das Thema und ich hoffe, das "The Monuments Men" besser sein wird.

 

Am Montag habe ich dann mit einem Buch begonnen, das die Liebe zu Bibliotheken beschreibt, und welche wundervolle Rückzugsorte Bibliotheken sind. Ich habe bisher die Hälfte gelesen und es ist schon sehr interessant, weil es auch über private Bibliotheken erzählt, und auch ein bisschen die Geschichte der Bibliotheken.

Geraubte Kunst in Altaussee

Schon gestern Nachmittag habe ich die Biographie von Horace Silver ausgelesen, die mir sehr gut gefallen hat. Wie in allen Musiker-Biographien ging es natürlich auch darum, wer mit wem in welchem Club gespielt hat, oder in welchem Studio die großen Songs aufgenommen wurden. Horace Silver hat aber auch seine Kindheit und seine Jugend beschrieben, und wie er zur Jazz-Musik gekommen ist. Ein tolles Buch, aber leider zu kurz.

 

Heute Nachmittag habe ich ein anderes, interessantes Buch begonnen, bin aber auch schon wieder bei der Hälfte - Morgen werde ich es dann wahrscheinlich auslesen. Da das Buch nur knapp 180 Seiten hat, beschreibt es die Ereignisse in Altaussee, bzw. wie es dazu kommen konnte, naturgemäß nur sehr kurz. Bedrückend ist allerdings, wie z.B. gleich nach dem Einmarsch der Nazis in Österreich sofort damit begonnen wurde, die Wohnungen und Villen der jüdischen Gemeinde nach Kunstschätzen zu durchsuchen und alles sofort zu beschlagnahmen.

Inhalt: Die Alliierten hatten gewonnen, Hitler war tot, doch sein fanatischer Gauleiter war entschlossen, den größten Kunstschatz, der in Europa je zusammengetragen worden war, zu vernichten. Tonnen von Sprengstoff hatte er in die Stollen des Bergwerks Altaussee schaffen lassen, wo die für das geplante Führermuseum geraubte Kunst seit 1943 gehortet wurde. Nun drohten Werke von Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Rubens, Vermeer, Leonardo da Vinci für immer zerstört zu werden. Gerettet wurden sie durch den Einsatz einer Handvoll Männer aus dem Salzkammergut und einiger Komplizen.

 

Mission Michelangelo erzählt ihre Geschichte und bringt Licht in eine der geheimnisvollsten Episoden der letzten Kriegstage.

Musikprojekt im April: Let's Go to the Nitty Gritty

Schon am Ostermontag Nachmittag habe ich mit meinem April-Buch für mein diesjähriges Leseprojekt begonnen. Im April habe ich mir die Autobiographie eines Jazzers ausgesucht - aber mein Projekt ist generell sehr Jazzlastig. Leider bin ich schon wieder fast fertig, spätestens Morgen habe ich die Biographie ausgelesen.

Raten-Post von Amazon

In den letzten beiden Wochen ist wieder einiges von Amazon eingetrudelt, und wie immer ist jedes Buch/DVD/Modeschmuck einzeln verpackt gekommen. Aber so muss die Paketpost wenigstens keine Angst um Jobs zu haben.

Gekommen ist ein weiterer Agatha Christie (die Fernsehserie Mittwoch Abends mit Alfred Suchet als Hercule Poirot inspiriert mich da. Der blaue Zug soll nicht ihr bester Krimi sein, aber ich bin im Moment ja sehr an Zügen interessiert. Auch die Neuverfilmung von "Mord im Orient-Express mit Kenneth Brannagh als Hercule Poirot und Johnny Depp als Edward Ratchett ist endlich eingetroffen.

 

Bei den Packerln waren auch noch eine Reisebeschreibung über Bangkok und das Buch zu dem Film, der gerade im Ausseer Land gedreht und sich mit Nazi-Raubkunst und deren Rettung durch Bergleute befasst.

 

Drei völlig unterschiedliche Biographien für mein Musikprojekt waren auch noch dabei, da freue ich mich auch schon sehr drauf.
